Miracle on 34th Street Cocktail
A holiday Manhattan - this take on my family’s favorite drink went over surprisingly well and features some of my most loved flavors of the holiday season.
For the Cocktail
- 2 Oz bourbon
- 1 Oz sweet vermouth
- 1 Oz orange ginger shrub
- 2 Dashes bitters
For the Orange Ginger Shrub
- 1 Cup water
- 1 Cup sugar
- 1 Pound chopped orange leave the skin and rind on
- 3 Inch knob of ginger root peeled and chopped
- 3 Large cinnamon sticks
- 1 Cup apple cider vinegar
For the Shrub
Add water, sugar, chopped orange, chopped ginger, and cinnamon sticks to a sauce pot - bring to a boil over medium heat then reduce to a simmer on low
Let mixture simmer on stove for 10 minutes then let it cool completely
Strain mixture into a large glass with a lid (I like mason jars) then add vinegar, put on lid and shake
This will keep in the fridge for about 6 months and note the shrub makes enough for many cocktails - about two cups of liquid
For the cocktail
Add ice and all cocktail ingredients to a shaker then stir to incorporate
Pour into a glass straight up or over ice - technically a true Manhattan is served straight up BUT this is not a true Manhattan and I like iced cocktails so I say, drink it however you like!
Garnish with a twist of orange and serve
